Barbara Jan Torgersen “Babs” was born in Gregory, S.D., on Dec. 4, 1954. Barbara passed away peacefully on May 23 in Eureka with her family by her side.

Barbara was married to the love of her life, Thomas Mitchell Torgersen, on Jan. 4, 1976, and the two were inseparable ever since. She was best known for her sweetness, laughter and generosity. Her favorite times were spent at her summer spot in Myers Flat, playing dice and sitting in the river. She loved agate hunting on the Oregon coast with her husband and best friend Tommy T. She always found the biggest agates. She also loved driving her Mustang — she had quite the lead foot.

She is survived by her love, Thomas Torgersen of Eureka; her daughter Evangela Torgersen of Rocklin and her children Chase, Haylee, Madison and Denali Hopkins; her son Robert and wife Sidney Torgersen of Eureka and their children Brett, Samuel and Jacob Torgersen; her daughter Tiffany and husband Matt Hess of Eureka and their children Emmajean Ione and Madge Mae Hess; father and mother Pete and Phyllis Modine of Eureka; siblings Ron and Rebecca Modine of Redding, Steve Modine of Eureka, Jeannie Ohm of Eureka and Lori Edwards of Eureka; great-grandchild Riven Hopkins of Eugene.

The family would also like to extended a special thanks to the staff and friends of the Eureka Wellness and Rehabilitation Center as well as Hospice of Humboldt County.

Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1st.
