Virginia Farris Lawrence was born in Lynn, Alabama to Bruce and Essie (Plunkett) Farris on April 22, 1940 and left this life for a heavenly Victorian high tea on November 6th, 2017.

Virginia graduated from high school in Redding and attended Freed Hardeman College, in Henderson, Tenn., where she met and married her husband, Billy Clayton Lawrence. During their 56-year marriage the Lawrences ministered to churches in; Chowchilla, Eugene, Taft (Calif.), Eureka, Burbank and Buena Park (Calif.).

Virginia was well known for her capacity to care for others. She graduated from the College of the Redwoods nursing school in 1981 and began a 30-year career as a registered nurse. Virginia worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka, Anaheim Memorial Hospital, Martin Luther Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Southern California.

Never very far away from her thoughts and her heart were her children; Lane Lawrence of Bristow, Va., Reta Lawrence Clyde of San Antonio, Texas and Scott Lawrence of San Antonio, Texas. Through marriages, Virginia added to those she called her children when Lane married Laurie Luker Lawrence, Reta married Rick Clyde and Scott married Trish Keller Lawrence.

One of her greatest joys was becoming “Mama” to her seven grandchildren; Nate Lawrence of Silver Spring, Maryland, Morgan Clyde of San Antonio, Texas, Andrew Clyde of San Antonio, Texas, Kayla Lawrence Loper of Bristow, Virginia, Sydney Clyde Wagner of Spring Branch, Texas, Tisa Lawrence of Lincoln, Nebraska and Wilson Clyde of Lubbock, Texas. In August of 2016, Virginia’s joy was increased again when she became a great-grandmother.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Billy Clayton Lawrence, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters; Annette Farris Campbell of Phoenix, Arizona and Jeannette Farris Montarbo of Augusta, Georgia, and her brothers Jim Farris of Sacramento and Bruce Farris, Jr. of Grants Pass, Oregon.

Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 10th at 10 a.m. at the Eureka Church of Christ, 1610 I Street, Eureka. Burial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Lawncrest Memorial Park, 1522 E Cypress Ave, Redding. Flowers may be sent to Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E St, Eureka, CA 95501.
