Shannon Renee Reed
March 7, 1969-September 30, 2017

Shannon was a proud Yurok tribal member. She was a happy person who loved to laugh. She didn’t have any children but she had her fur baby Rowdy Reed who she referred to as her son. Everywhere Shannon was, Rowdy was.

Shannon attended both Hoopa Elementary and Margaret Keating School. She went to Del Norte High School, where she played softball as their catcher. After high school Shannon went to work at the BIA in the fisheries department. Later on she would work for the Yurok Tribe’s fisheries department, where she was employed for many years as a fish technician. Shannon loved being on the river.

Shannon is survived by her step-mom of 30 years Sharon Reed; her siblings Cindy Niles Moon, Sonja, Lisa, Radenia and Phillip Reed; Oscar Gensaw III, James Gensaw Sr. and Shoshoni Hostler; her nieces and nephews Mindy Natt, Thomas Willson Jr., Greg Readen, Ashlee, Joyce, Emmaline, Trout and Ka-met Peters; Lashon Reed, Melissa Charles, William, Makayla, and Buck Logan; Wey-se-new, Akira, Dwayne, and Miliani Reed; Thayallen, David, Oskee, and Queen Gensaw; James Jr., Tescha, and Chey Gensaw; Sofia Myers, Olivia, Kautia and Skippy Hostler; great-nieces and nephew Paris and London Donahue and Leora and Phillip Roberts; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Shannon is preceded in dead by her parents Lawrence “Simp” Reed Jr. and Barbara “Midget” Taylor; her siblings Richard Taylor, Jennifer Niles and Dwayne “Gunny” Reed; her grandparents Lawrence and Delores Reed Sr., Oscar Taylor and Ruby Downs; and her best friend, April Rodriguez.

Memorial Services will be held on this Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Yurok Tribal Headquarters in Klamath. We will eat immediately following. Please bring your favorite memory and dish to share.

The family would like to thank everyone who loved and cared for Shannon.
