On September 26, 2017, Christine Celina Banka Hadley passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92.  She was born April 12, 1925, in Lublin, Poland, then immigrated with her family to Manitoba, Canada in 1927.  She met Leland Hadley in Winnipeg, where they were married October 1, 1947.  They moved to Eureka, Lee’s hometown, where Chris became a naturalized US citizen, of which she was very proud.

In her early years in Eureka, she worked for Belcher’s Title Company.  In 1975, she and Lee ran the coffee shop they’d built at the ranch near Honeydew, and did that for about five years.  After Lee retired, they split their time between their home in Eureka and the Mattole Valley ranch.

Chris was preceded in death by her husband Leland Hadley; children Leslie Hadley, Robert Hadley and Patricia Chapman.  She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Hadley; son-in-law Jerry Chapman; grandchildren Jason Chapman, Peter (Sarah) Chapman, Christina Chapman, Stephanie Luerken and Katherine Luerken; great-grandsons Cody Chapman and Spencer Chapman.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Stephanie Dittmer and the wonderful nurses for the care they provided during Chris’ recent stay at Redwood Memorial, the Hospice of Humboldt team for their compassion and support for Chris and her family, and the staff of Brookdale in Fortuna.

A gathering in Chris’ memory is planned for Friday, Oct. 6 at 5:00 p.m., at the Monday Club in Fortuna.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.
