California Highway Patrol press release: 

 

On April 2, 2018, at approximately 10:20 AM, a 2002 Toyota 4Runner, driven by a single male occupant, was traveling northbound on SR-254, north of Myers Flat. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota crossed over the double yellow center line and oncoming traffic lane, and traveled off the west roadway edge. The Toyota traveled approximately 35 feet down a descending embankment and collided with multiple trees. As a result of the collision, the driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The driver’s name is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision. This collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol – Garberville office.
