U.S. Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay is actively searching the ocean for a distressed person near Big Lagoon.

Coast Guard Chief of Response Brendan Hilleary told the Outpost moments ago that the Coast Guard was dispatched to the emergency at 3:12 p.m.

“I can confirm that we did launch a crew and we’re working with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, State Parks and lifeguards near Big Lagoon,” Hilleary said. “We haven’t been able to confirm who the person in the water is.”

The search is reportedly ongoing. We will update when we know more.
