An 8-year-old girl was pulled from the surf by the Coast Guard yesterday after she was reported missing in the water near Big Lagoon.

A spokesperson with Sector Humboldt Bay told the Outpost this morning, that a helicopter crew located the distressed child near Agate Beach, hoisted her from the water and began performing CPR. The child was then airlifted to St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka where emergency personnel were awaiting her arrival.

Sector Humboldt Bay responded to the emergency call at 3:22 p.m., dispatching a helicopter and lifeboat to the area. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, State Parks and lifeguards were also on scene.
