On 4/27/18, at about 1830 hours, 33 year old Benjamin Shermis of Arcata came to the Humboldt CHP Office in Arcata with his attorney. Mr. Shermis admitted he was the driver in the fatal hit and run collision last night on US-101 northbound at SR-200, in which a male pedestrian was killed. Mr. Shermis was subsequently arrested for felony hit and run and was booked into the Humboldt County Jail. His vehicle, a white 2001 Ford van, was located at the location where he told investigators it would be and was subsequently impounded for investigation. The CHP is still seeking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have information about the collsion.
