19-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Rams Patrol Car With Stolen Vehicle During High-Speed Pursuit Through Eureka
A Eureka Police Department and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office joint press release:
On April 29, 2018, at about 11:08 p.m., an officer with the Eureka Police Department
located an occupied stolen vehicle traveling on Broadway near the Herrick overpass. The
officer attempted to stop the vehicle (a Pontiac Grand Am) but the driver refused to yield
and a pursuit was initiated.
Officers pursued the vehicle into the County jurisdiction and up into the area of
Ridgewood. At Ridgewood and Beechwood Streets, the driver of the stolen vehicle
intentionally rammed a patrol car and hit an uninvolved parked SUV before continuing to
flee. No injuries were reported.
Kiayleah Ammon
During the encounter, officers recognized the driver of the stolen vehicle and identified
her as 19 year old Kiayleah Rose Ammon. Ammon continued to flee in the stolen
vehicle on Ridgewood and onto Walnut Drive. Officers discontinued the pursuit near
Willow and D Streets due to safety concerns and knowing the identity of the driver.
A short time later, a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy located the stolen Grand Am
abandoned near the intersection of Alder and D Streets. Officers searched the area but
were unable to locate Ammon.
On April 30, 2018, at about 6:20 a.m., EPD took a stolen vehicle report from the 4300
block of D Street. The victim said his Dodge truck was taken sometime during the night
by an unknown suspect.
At about 7:30 a.m., the victim of the stolen truck contacted the Humboldt County
Sheriff’s Office and reported that he had located his stolen truck and was following it in
the Elk River Road area. The victim followed the vehicle onto Valley Drive, where the
truck stopped. The victim confronted the driver, later identified as Ammon. Ammon gave the victim his keys back and fled into a nearby residence. Upon arrival at the scene,
deputies located Ammon, who attempted to flee, but was quickly apprehended.
Ammon was transported and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for
assault with a deadly weapon, evading, and two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle.
