From the California Highway Patrol:
On the early morning of Monday April 30, a solo vehicle collision resulted in major injuries.
At approximately 3:35 AM 29 year old Jason Victor William Keyes of Eureka, California, was driving his 2000 Honda Civic southbound on State Route 255, north of 3rd Street. Keyes was driving while impaired, unrestrained and traveling at a high rate of speed as he entered into the city of Eureka. Keyes drove the Honda directly into the raised concrete center divider of SR-255, causing the Honda to become airborne. The Honda continued in a southerly direction, colliding with the concrete center divider and northbound lane several times as it overturned. Keyes was ejected from the vehicle and he came to rest in the northbound lanes, south of the intersection of 4th Street.
The Honda came to rest mostly in the #2 northbound lane, north of 3rd Street. Keyes was initially transported to St. Joseph Hospital for medical treatment but was later transported by by a REACH Air Medical Services helicopter to UC Davis Medical Center for further medical services.
The California Highway Patrol would like to thank the Eureka Police Department, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, California Department of Transportation, Humboldt Bay Fire and Humboldt Tow for their professional services provided at the scene.
