Guy Sidney Springman, aged 89, formerly a resident of Fieldbrook and McKinleyville, passed away at Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna on July 20, 2018.

Guy was born in Los Angeles on May 25, 1929 to Sidney and Hazel Springman. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1953 he married Peggy Wilcoxson and became the step-father of Ernest Johnson and Candace Johnson Brown. Guy’s sons, Darryl and Mark Springman were born in 1954 and 1956.

Guy was a single father to Darryl and Mark for many years before marrying Dorothy Springman in 1974 when he also became the step-father of Kathy (Kouns) Ruiz.

He worked many years in Southern California as a jeweler, electrician, and Operations Manager. In 1979 he moved to the Fieldbrook area and became head electrician at HSU until his retirement.

Guy is survived by his son, Mark Springman (Claudine) of Fortuna, his step-daughter, Kathy Ruiz of Sacramento, his step-son, Ernest Johnson (Cheryl) of Mexico, his grandchildren, Heather Springman Buckman (Morgan) of Bend, James Springman of Marino Valley, his great-grandchildren, Jaena, Donovan and Archer Buckman, his step-grandchildren, Ernest Johnson III of Georgia, Julia Johnson of Fortuna, Christine Johnson of Eureka, Joe Johnson of Virginia, step-great-grandsons, Owen, Jantz, Tyler, Rumi, Orion and Kainoa as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Guy was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Springman in 1999, his son, Darryl Springman, his parents, Hazel and Sidney Springman, his 5 sisters, Dorothy Schmidt (Myron), Lois Carmesin (John), Hazel Gardener (Bud), Betty Stoffel (Bob), Marguerite Price (Ross), his step-daughter Candace Brown, and his girlfriend of the past 17 years, Mitzie Gustafson.
