Highway 36 is currently closed between between Platina Road and the R Ranch in Shasta County due to a new wildfire that ignited sometime this morning.

The fire is being referred to as the Gorge Fire, which the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service reports is burning north of Beegum Gorge Road in the Platina area.

The fire is now reportedly 75 acres in size.
