Just before 3 p.m. today, several companies of Humboldt Bay Fire firefighters were summoned to the south side of town on report of a large vegetation fire burning somewhere in the neighborhood.
When they arrived and sorted out the situation, they found a few medium-sized patches of fire somewhere in the neighborhood of 100x30 feet each burning along the Hikshari Trail, between the foot of Pound Road to a location off Hilfiker Road.
Humboldt Bay Fire Battalion Chief Chris Emmons told the Outpost’s Stephanie McGeary, who is at the scene, that the pattern would seem to suggest that the fires were set deliberately.
All the fires are out now, Emmons said.
