A quarter-acre vegetation fire broke out along the Trinidad hillside last night just south of Cher-Ae Heights Casino.

Calfire Public Information Officer Laura Coleman told the Outpost that firefighters were called to the scene near the intersection of Scenic Drive and Cher-Ae Lane just before 10 p.m. and were able to extinguish the fire in about 45 minutes.

Calfire, the Westhaven and Fieldbrook Volunteer Fire Departments, and the Arcata Fire District were all dispatched to extinguish the fire. One dozer and one water tender were also requested to battle the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
