Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse are searching for a Southern Humboldt man who went missing while cutting firewood.
On Dec. 20, 2018, at about 7:40 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 5400 block of Hardwood Lane in the Dutyville area for a missing persons report.
Keith Edgar Smith, 53, was reported missing by his wife after he failed to return from collecting firewood on the property. He was last seen leaving the residence at about 3:00 p.m. on a side-by-side (UTV).
Sheriff’s deputies located Smith’s UTV at about 6:30 a.m., December 21. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse and Southern Humboldt Technical Rescue were called to the scene to continue searching for Smith.
Keith Smith is described as a white male adult, 5 feet 4 inches tall, approximately 150 pounds, with blue eyes, red hair and a beard.
