From Humboldt Bay Fire:
On 12/7/18 at 6:07 A.M. three fire engines, a ladder truck and a chief officer from Humboldt Bay Fire were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the alley at Second and F Streets. The initial call to dispatch was that a dumpster against a building was on fire.
The first arriving unit found a dumpster on fire below a window, against the building, The window had already cracked from the heat and electrical components supplying the building were beginning to burn. One unit from Humboldt Bay Fire quickly extinguished the fire in the dumpster and the nearby electrical components. The additional units searched the area for other fires or persons who may have information about the fire.
Fires in the Old Town area have potential to become major fires due to the proximity of buildings and types of construction in the area. Damage to the dumpster, window, and electrical components are estimated to be $2,000. Humboldt Bay Fire is investigating these recent dumpster fires as arson fires.
