From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:
Deputies’ keen observation and prompt response cut short a burglary in progress in McKinleyville early this morning.
On Feb. 14, 2018, at about 4:45 a.m., a deputy sheriff on patrol observed a hole cut into the fence of a commercial storage facility on the 1600 block of Murray Rd. in McKinleyville. Several items were piled outside of the fence near the hole.
Upon investigating, deputies observed two male suspects wearing dark clothing, one with reflective strips on his pants, running away from the property. The deputies also found several storage units with locks cut off and several other units that the suspects had opened and searched. The deputies were unable to locate the suspects in the nearby wooded area.
At this point in the investigation, it is unknown if any personal property was stolen other than that recovered near the fence. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office commends the deputies who observed this incident and responded quickly to prevent further burglary of the facility.
