Two Arrested After Pursuit Through Eureka; Vehicle Search Uncovers Suspected Meth

On February 25, 2018, at about 1:24 p.m., an officer with the Eureka Police Department
attempted a traffic stop near West Avenue and 6th Street. The driver immediately fled
and a short pursuit began. The driver ultimately yielded at the intersection of 3rd and S
Streets and was taken into custody without further incident.
While officers were taking Hooper into custody, a female identifying herself as Hooper’s
wife ran up from behind and began interfering with officers. The female was identified
as 28 year old Marissa Lawson. Lawson was arrested for interfering with the
investigation.
The driver, 29 year old Kenneth Hooper, was found to be on active Post Release
Community Supervision and had a warrant for sales of controlled substances. During a
search of the vehicle, officers located over 100 grams of methamphetamine and
indicators of sales activity.
Hooper was arrested on the warrant and for fresh charges of evading and possession of
methamphetamine for sales. Hooper and Lawson were transported and booked into the
Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
