McKinleyville Residents Help Sheriff’s Office Apprehend Allegedly Armed, Inebriated Man
Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release:
On Feb. 8, 2018 at about 11:07 a.m., the Humboldt County Emergency Communications Center
received a report of a possibly armed subject making general threats near the 2200 block of
Cochran Rd. in McKinleyville.
The subject, later identified as 58-year-old Larry Joe Sillaway, was reported to possibly be in
possession of a firearm and a knife. Deputy Sheriff’s were dispatched to the scene with a
description of the subject.
Residents in the area of Cochran Rd., Landis Ct. and Underhill Ave. were notified via the county’s
Emergency Alert System of the active situation and advised to stay inside for the duration of the
incident.
Thanks to community members’ help, deputies were able to track Sillaway’s movement as he
travelled from Cochran Rd. to Landis Ct., through a nearby wooded area to the rear of Grocery
Outlet.
Officers with the California State Parks and the California Highway Patrol responded to assist
deputies.
Sillaway was taken into custody without incident and was found in possession of a knife.
Deputies were unable to locate a firearm. Sillaway was booked into the Humboldt County
Correctional Facility on charges of disorderly conduct while under the influence.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office commends the many alert citizens who aided in Sillaway’s
apprehension.
