Bicycle-Riding Wanted Felon Attempts to Pedal Away from Deputy in Orleans, Doesn’t Get Far
Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release:
A wanted felon is in custody following a pursuit in Northern Humboldt.
Around 11 a.m. Jan. 17, 2018 a sheriff’s deputy on patrol in Orleans observed wanted felon
Phillip Randall Reed, 28, riding a bicycle near Highway 96 and Dredge Rd. When the deputy
attempted to contact Reed for an outstanding felony warrant, Reed fled down Dredge Rd. on his
bike. The deputy pursued Reed down the road.
Reaching the end of Dredge Rd., Reed continued to flee on foot towards the Klamath River bar.
The deputy pursued Reed on foot for approximately 400 yards before taking him into custody.
The California Highway Patrol and the Yurok Tribal Police Department responded to assist.
Reed was arrested on his felony warrant for evading a peace officer as well as two additional
charges of resisting a peace officer and violation of probation.
