Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office press release:
On Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at about 5:55 a.m., Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies and members of the SCSO’s Special Response Team (SRT) served a search warrant on Spring Street in Happy Camp and arrested Mr. Charles Raymond Carl Tello, 32, of Happy Camp for a variety of felony and misdemeanor charges pursuant to arrest warrants issued by the Siskiyou County Superior Court.
The charges for which he was charged after review by the Siskiyou County District Attorney included repeated acts of resisting, obstructing, and delaying a peace officer in the line of duty and a felony assault-related charge.
In recent weeks, Mr. Tello frequently fled law enforcement attempts to apprehend him and one of his tactics was to climb large trees to remain out-of-reach of pursuing peace officers for extended periods of time. SCSO deputies and SRT operators got up early to serve the search warrant and caught Mr. Tello unprepared for the unexpected visit.
SCSO deputies and SRT members entered the home pursuant to a search warrant and surrounded his home to ensure he did not escape. Although Mr. Tello attempted to elude SCSO deputies and SRT personnel during the incident, he was quickly arrested and eventually transported to the Siskiyou County Jail where he was booked on the arrest warrants issued for his previous crimes.
While in Happy Camp to conduct the search warrant operation, Deputies Erickson and Tygart responded to a call of a reported attempted burglary in the 6000 block of Airport Road. A suspect, Mr. Dominick Brown, 41, was allegedly threatening the owner at that location by claiming he was going to burn her house down. Deputy Tygart contacted the suspect in the victim’s driveway and he resisted arrest but was taken into custody for attempted burglary and resisting, obstructing, and delaying a peace officer while on-duty. Mr. Brown was transported to the Siskiyou County Jail and booked on the felony and misdemeanor charges.
According to Sheriff Jon Lopey, “This was a good day for the citizens of Happy Camp and law enforcement because Mr. Tello was successfully arrested after committing numerous crimes in that community. He resisted arrest on a number of occasions, endangering peace officers and the good citizens of Happy Camp.
The members of the search warrant team got up earlier and had a better plan that precluded another escape by Mr. Tello and he is in jail, where he belongs, until he answers for the many charges, he is facing. Mr. Brown is also facing serious charges for his poor judgment and unacceptable behavior.
These cases are still under investigation and anyone with information about these or related crimes perpetrated by either Tello or Brown is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office 24-hour Dispatch Center at (530) 841-2900.”
