Elias James Silva, born Nov. 27, 2000 to Joseph and Sheryl Silva, of Eureka, was lost to us on Dec. 31, 2017 due to injuries sustained from a tragic accident.

Elias attended several Eureka schools throughout the years, most recently at St. Bernard’s Academy, where for the past three years he flourished socially and academically. The family would like to thank the staff and students for their encouragement and friendship. An honor roll student from 7th – 11th grades, he was as likely to study on his lunch break as goof around with friends. His intense focus on studies meant late nights, but he always made time for food. No meal was complete without a slug of Cholula Hot Sauce and a large quantity of raw onion.

Elias rarely missed an opportunity to playfully harass his family. His cheerful exuberance and infectious grin ensured no (lasting) hard feelings. His unhesitating generosity blessed everyone; his kindness extended to even the littlest family members. (Who doesn’t like being chased around the house by a laughing teenager on his hands and knees?) Without him, there is a vacancy at the table and a hole in our hearts.

Elias is survived by his loving parents, Joseph and Sheryl Silva; his brother, Noah; his sisters, Joanna and Grace; his paternal grandparents Rosemary and Joe of Windsor, Calif.; his maternal grandparents, Scott and Thea Collins, of Eureka; a multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins; many friends, including (but not limited to) Travis, Nathan, Seth, Ben, Christian, Justin, Andrew and Noah F.

We will remember the precious life of Elias Silva in a service held Saturday, Jan. 13, 2 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 819 15th Street, Eureka.
