Delores Marie Powell was born Tuesday, January 15, 1924 to Edward & Ruth Jergentz in Fargo, ND and crossed over to be with her God on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.
Delores was raised on a farm in Pretty Rock, ND before moving to Redding, CA with her family. Upon her high school graduation, Delores enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a WAVE in World War II. Delores’ picture proudly hangs in the Women in Military Service for America Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Delores married Wesley E. Powell on October 20, 1948 in Redding, CA wearing her husband’s U.S. Army Parachute which was fashioned into a flowing wedding gown & train. As a minister’s wife, Delores continued her life of service and wore many hats. Organist/Pianist, Soloist, Choir Director, Wedding Coordinator, Church Secretary, Seamstress, Hostess, and Missionary in Kodiak, Alaska. She also served as an Election Polling Volunteer, Public School Volunteer (Grandma Delores), Sunday School Teacher, Volunteer making quilted blankets for children in Eureka Foster Care, and crocheted hundreds of baby hats to be donated to children in India’s medical clinics and California’s hospitals.
Delores is survived by three of her children, daughter LaRee Hauschild (Bill) of Sacramento, CA; daughter Jennifer Deutscher (Wayne) of San Mateo, CA; son Douglas Powell (Sandra) of Eureka, CA; and her youngest sister, Eileen Wood of Chico, CA. Delores is also survived by ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Delores is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Wesley E. Powell, her son, Stevehn Powell, her great-grandson, Easton Conner, her parents Edward & Ruth Jergentz, her brothers, Herbert (Barbara), Harold (Nita), sister Shirley (Red), and brother-in-law (Lee).
Celebration of Delores’ Life will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at First Covenant Church, 2526 J Street in Eureka.
