Fieldbrook school went on lockdown this morning for a brief time, after someone told the Sheriff’s Office of a woman walking in the general vicinity of the campus carrying what they believed to be a weapon.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Samantha Karges told the Outpost that her office received the report just before 10 a.m. A caller told dispatchers that she spotted a woman walking down Wagle Lane, north of the school, carrying binoculars and what appeared to be a gun.

Deputies responded but were not able to locate the woman, who they believed may have fled into the woods south of Wagle. They searched the woods and were unable to locate her. At some point, Fieldbrook School got wind of the search and decided to activate a lockdown.

Karges said that the woman in the case is known to law enforcement, and they don’t believe there is an immediate threat to the community. The Sheriff’s Office called Fieldbrook School at 11 a.m. to advise administrators that they could lift their lockdown, Karges said.

Deputies have still not located the woman, and they don’t know whether she was in fact carrying a firearm. They’re still investigating.
