Edith Margaret Lee passed away June 25, 2018 in her home in Eureka with her daughter at her side. She was born November 22, 1916 (101) in Gualala (Mendocino County), California to Thomas and Edyth Carlson. Mom was married to my sweet dad, Carl Lee for 54 years until his passing December 23, 1991. Mom and dad gave my brother Tom and I the best childhood anyone could ever ask for. Mom was able to live in her home where my brother Tom and I were raised until her passing.
Mom and her sister Lena did some traveling after dad had passed. They traveled to Ireland, Sweden and Norway, mom was Swedish and Irish and my dad was Norwegian. She also took a cruise to Alaska and Hawaii. Mom volunteered at the Senior Resource Center for 25 years, until the arthritis in her hands made it impossible for her to serve the seniors. She was older than all the seniors at the center, and she would say she has to go and serve the old people. She would have her little glass of wine everyday at 4 p.m.. Maybe that was her secret to living so long. She also drove until she was 99 years old. When her license was renewed at 91 for 5 years, she called me and said, what the hell are they thinking. Then at 96 she took the test again and got 100% and they renewed it for another 5 years.
She leaves her daughter, Carol Lee (David McKenzie), grandchildren, Shelly Romak (Steve), Tom Lee (Marcie), Eric Lee (Jill) and great grandchildren, Kiley Duncan, Stacey Duncan, Nick Duncan and Derrick Lee. Daughter-in-law, Ellen Lee.
She is preceded in death by her mom and dad, Edyth and Thomas Carlson, husband, Carl Lee, son Tom Lee, daughter Barbara Murray, sisters Violet, Lena, Melba and brothers, Tom, Harry and Kenneth.
Thank you, Jim Johnston, for everything you did for my mom. I could not have done it without you. Her wish was to be at home until her passing and if it wasn’t for your help that would not have been possible. Thank you to Hospice nurse Mollie and nurses aid Erica. Thank you for all your wonderful help.
Mom’s wish is no service. Have a glass of wine at four and think of her. Any donations can be made to A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig Disease), Eureka Senior Resource Center lunch program and Hospice.
