Fortuna Police Department release:
On March 11, 2018 at approximately 1:26 PM, the Fortuna Police Department Communications Center received a report of a reckless driver in the area of Newburg Road. Moments later, the communications center received 911 calls reporting a roll over traffic collision at the intersection of Redwood Way and Rohnerville Road.
Upon arrival, officers located a Gray 2017 Nissan Sentra resting on its roof with a single occupant still in the vehicle. Fortuna Fire Department and City Ambulance responded and extricated the driver from the vehicle. The driver was transported to St Joseph Hospital for trauma related treatment.
The driver, Jacob Micheal Johnson, age 28 of Fortuna was arrested for driving while under the influence of a controlled substance.
Johnson was released at the hospital where he is receiving treatment. Johnson is currently in stable condition.This collision is currently under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact Officer Moore at 707-725-1414. The department would like to remind drivers that just like drunk driving, driving under the influence of drugs is a crime – even if your impairment is due to prescribed medications, illicit drugs, over-the-counter medications or marijuana – medical or recreational.
In 2014, 38 percent of all drivers who were killed in motor vehicle crashes in California tested positive for legal and/or illegal drugs. That percentage has been increasing every year.
