Eureka Police Department press release:
On March 13, 2018, at about 3:15 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department received information that a stolen Toyota Camry was in the vicinity of McCullens Avenue and Broadway Street. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Medford, OR. Officers located the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near McCullens Avenue and Nevada Street.
The driver and passenger were detained without incident. The driver, 44-year-old Carl Keeler of Eureka, had a felony parole warrant. The passenger, 28-year-old Cara Chmielewski of Eureka, initially gave a false name but was ultimately found to have three felony warrants. On the front passenger seat, officers located methamphetamine and heroin.
Keeler and Chmielewski were transported and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charges: Keeler- felony parole warrant and fresh charge for possession of a stolen vehicle. Chmielewski- felony warrants for forgery, burglary, and possession of controlled substance for sales. Fresh charges of possession of a controlled substance, giving a false name, and probation violation.
