The apes and monkeys of the Sequoia Park Zoo had a few things to say after a 4.5 earthquake shook their cages and everything else around Humboldt Bay yesterday morning.
The zoo shares this video of its white-handed gibbons making “alarm calls” after the first of two medium-sized quakes to shake our area yesterday.
“Even the primates were talking about the earthquake this morning!” the Sequoia Park Zoo wrote on Facebook yesterday. “Both the White-handed gibbons and Spider monkeys were making ‘alarm calls’ which can warn of danger, risk, a threat, or even identify a specific predator. Watch as they exhibit this natural behavior!”
