George Gillenwater passed away peacefully February 22, 2018.

George was born in Kirby, Oklahoma to William and Nelly Gillenwater on November 21st 1914. George worked in the lumber industry for 52 years, in California, Oregon and Washington. The last 23 years were for Champion International Corp.

George enjoyed volunteering and interacting with the people of the First Covenant Church of Eureka. He also enjoyed playing and making kazoo instruments for the Humboldt Kitchenaires for many years.

George was preceded in death by his parents, brother Billy, first wife Winona, second wife Margaret, special friend Olive, grandson Scott Holm and stepson Bud Olsen.

He is survived by his third wife Barbara, children Carol Holm, Robert (Sena), stepdaughter Norma Jean Neville, 8 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at the First Covenant Church at 2526 J St in Eureka at 1 p.m. March 17. In lieu of flowers you may make a contribution to your favorite charity, Eureka Rescue Mission or the American Cancer Society.
