Larry was born in Portland, Oregon, and moved to SF when his mom Terri married his stepdad, Frank. He later moved to Fortuna with his mom when she divorced. He lived in Humboldt County most of his life, except for a short time in Lodi. He told his son Don, “That is why CCR wrote the song, Stuck in Lodi Again”. He said it was true.

Larry met the love of his life, Kay, in 1977 at “The Spot” in Fortuna and married her later in 1982. They were inseparable, and were only apart once when Kay went back to England to visit her family and homeland. He was brokenhearted when she later died of cancer and missed her greatly.

Larry worked different jobs throughout his life. He worked for LP Lumber Mill for about 15 years. He worked as a cook for his mother Terri at Terri’s Café Main St. Fortuna. He worked many other jobs — even sold firewood in the difficult times.

Larry loved to fish, and fished all the rivers of Humboldt County. Larry was an amazing artist.

During the early 1970s, he lived out of his 1969 Lincoln Continental painting different landmarks of Humboldt County, from the redwoods, to Scotia Bluffs, to Ferndale, Petrolia. One of his best paintings was of the old Bridgeville Bridge on Highway 36. In in his later years, Larry loved working on his model train set.

Larry and his wife Kay loved their place in the woods called the Shire. They loved the mountains and would only come to town when they had to get supplies.

Larry was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Eureka where he was baptized by his son Pastor Don Reed after accepting Christ as his Savior.

He is truly loved and will be greatly missed.

A Memorial will be held for the family only.  It will be June 15th. We love you, dad.
