Samuel Martin Stanshaw Jr., 43, of Smith River, passed away on May 21, 2018, in Eureka. He was the husband of Angela Marie Davis. They shared 16 years together.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., May 30th, at the Lighthouse Community Church, in Crescent City, with member Dan Allen of Pelican Bay Evangelical Free Church. Burial will follow at Howonquet Indian Cemetery.

Samuel was born in Eureka on November 11, 1974, to Samuel Martin Sr., and Jeanne Stanshaw. He was an enrolled member of the Yurok Tribe, and attended Del Norte High School, in Crescent City. He loved hiking, camping, and swimming with his family. He was an excellent cook, had a great sense of humor, and was very proud of his Native heritage.

He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Martin Sr., mother, Jeanne Stanshaw, siblings, John, Loren, Lori, and Keith Stanshaw.

Samuel is survived by his wife, Angela Marie Davis, son, Cedar Apache Stanshaw, brothers, Kevin and Allen Stanshaw, and sisters, Cheryl and Jeanne Stanshaw, aunts and uncles, Joanne (Wallace) Scott, Sue (Matthew) Painter, Frank (Marjorie) Murdock and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
