Melva Rae Stevens passed away April 8, 2018 in Eureka, due to surgery complications.

Born Melva Rae Stevens to Earl & Betty (Ferris) Stevens on February 15, 1952. Melva attended local schools and graduated from Eureka High School, where she loved being a part of the EHS Choir. In her younger years, Melva loved to sing and play her red electric guitar.

Melva lived in Eureka all of her life. She worked as a baker for many years at Lazio’s Restaurant. She also worked as a cook at Gonsea and Crestwood. She was a great cook and baker. Melva was also a gifted artist (painting and pottery), enjoyed gardening (flowers and succulents), loved people and really loved all animals — especially her puppy, “Rowdy.” We have never known Melva to not have a faithful furry friend in the house. She spoiled her pets with lots of love, the best food, sweaters, and even bought them rain boots for rainy days.

Melva enjoyed going to the Senior Resource Center with her sister, Earlene. Melva made many friends there and will be greatly missed. Melva was a very kind, caring soul and had that “cute smile” that everyone loved and will miss. She was a proud member of the Yurok Tribe and loved attending the Inter-Tribal Gathering every year.

Melva is survived by her sisters, Earlene Jentry, Laura Stevens, Rhonda Readen, Konni Readen and brother, Greg Readen, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, her best friends, Peggy, Ron, and Dolly. Preceded in death by Father, Earl Stevens, Mother, Betty Readen, Sister, Sharon Baker, Sister, Bonnie Pete, Niece, Tori Jentry, and niece Debbie Lawson. Services will be held May 7, 2018 at Ocean View Memorial Chapel, 3975 Broadway Street, Eureka at 3 p.m.
