On May 8, 2018, at about 6:50 p.m., a Humboldt County sheriff’s deputy on patrol in the Garberville area observed a man riding a bicycle on Locust St. while wearing headphones. The man, later identified as 39 –year-old Christopher Jason Bartley of Arcata, failed to stop at a stop sign, turning east onto Conger St. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the bicycle at Cedar St.

The deputy discovered that Bartley was on probation with a search clause. While searching Bartley, the deputy found 25 individually packaged bags of heroin, a digital scale, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Bartley was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of possession for sale of a controlled substance and violation of probation.
