Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On November 22, 2018, at about 10 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol in the area of Highway 36 near Bridgeville observed a silver Toyota Corolla traveling westbound, repeatedly swerving into the eastbound lane.

When deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Corolla, the vehicle failed to yield. Deputies initiated a pursuit of the vehicle, however due to weather conditions; the pursuit was terminated after approximately three miles. The deputies continued to follow the vehicle at a safe distance. As deputies were following the Corolla, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 54-year-old Mark Anthony Brown of Chico, threw several silver metal objects out of the vehicle onto the roadway. As the Corolla approached Carlotta, Brown lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a ditch. Brown then attempted to flee on foot from deputies.

Brown was taken into custody and continued to resist deputies.

Officers with the Fortuna Police Department and Emergency Medical Services arrived to assist. Brown continued to be uncooperative with medical staff and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Brown was later released from the hospital and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of evading a peace officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct under the influence and improper turns over double lines on the roadway. His bail is set at $50,000.
