On 11/26/18 at about 2:29 am, two vehicle burglaries were reported to the Eureka Police
Department communications center. The burglaries were within close proximity of one
another and near an area of the City that has had an increase in theft related crimes.
While investigating the incidents, officers obtained a detailed description of the suspect.
Officers immediately began searching the area for the suspect. A short time later, a subject
closely matching the suspect’s description was located at the 2900 block of California Street.
The subject was identified as Melecio Lorenzo Sandoval (23 years old of Eureka, CA).
Sandoval was detained without incident.
As a result of the investigation, officers were able to connect Sandoval to three different
vehicle burglaries that occurred during the night and multiple items of stolen property were
recovered. Sandoval was taken into custody for burglary and possession of a controlled
substance. He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the fresh
charges.
This is an ongoing investigation and further details will be released as they are available.
