How to use the Uber Eats app.
UPDATE, 12:45 p.m.:
It’s Uber Eats launch Day here in Humboldt County, and in about 15 minutes, customers will know the joy of having food driven directly to their mouths.
Now that the app is functional in Humboldt, LoCO can take a look at exactly what eateries have signed up for the service and where they deliver to.
Some early drama has surfaced in the delivery food race, with Stars burgers not appearing as an Uber Eats option for those in Eureka. Meanwhile, there are a number of Eureka businesses listed as delivering to Arcata. Surprisingly, there also don’t seem to be any fast food chains signed up for the service in either Eureka or Arcata.
Here’s how delivery options are looking in both towns:
Arcata:
- Savory Grill and Cafe
- Tandoori Bites Indian Cuisine
- Stars Burgers
- Humboldt Bay Provisions
- Ultimate Yogurt
Eureka:
- Tandoori Bites Indian Cuisine
- Ultimate Yogurt
- Humboldt Bay Provisions
- The Diver Bar & Grill
Delivery charges change based on things like time, distance, weather and demand, but current the fees seem to range from $3.49 to $4.49.
Based on a service area map shared by a LoCO reader, it looks like the service map does not extend to Bayside. But other areas like Bayview, Fairhaven Samoa, Tyee City and McKinleyville are all within delivery range.
Check out what the service is like in your area and leave a comment below if we missed anything.
P.S. For those of you without cars or smartphones, Riptide Cafe in Arcata reminds you today, that horse is still a valid means of travel in Humboldt County.

Finally, the people of Eureka can order cheeseburgers without putting on pants.
Starting today, Uber Eats (Uber’s food-delivery service) is officially available in Eureka, Arcata and other nearby areas.
The Humboldt addition is part of Uber Eats’ recent expansion to cover more than 70 percent of the U.S. population, including other Northern and Central California areas like Redding, Chico, Lodi, Yuba City and Visalia.
So far, the Outpost has only been able to confirm that Stars Burgers in Arcata is signed on for today’s Uber Eats launch, but smartphone users will be able to login to the app starting at 7:30 a.m. to see what other options may be available.
Theresa Powell, general manager of the Arcata Stars, told the Outpost that the burger joint will be serving up Uber Eats orders between 1 and 5 p.m.
“We wanted to jump on it now, as it’s getting started,” Powell said.
As for the Stars in Eureka, Powell said the location is run by different owners who chose not to participate in the delivery service, so Eureka residents will likely have to wait a little longer and pay a little extra to have their Stars burgers delivered.
To being using Uber Eats, customers will need to download the app, which is separate from the Uber driver service app, and follow the directions in the video above.
