On September 20, 2018 at about 3:28 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a shooting that
had occurred in the 3000 block of HWY 254 near Phillipsville in southern Humboldt County.
Upon arrival Deputies located one adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Several
subjects were detained at the scene and Detective response was requested. Multiple Detectives
responded to the scene to start a homicide investigation.
During the course of the investigation, one adult male was determined to be a person of interest.
After being cleared medically due to injuries he suffered prior to law enforcement arriving on
scene, he was transported to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office in Eureka for an interview
relating to this incident. At this time the person of interest is being cooperative and our
investigation is active and ongoing. The identity of the deceased person is being withheld
pending notification of next of kin.
The Sheriff’s Office is confident that all involved subjects have been contacted and that there is
no outstanding risk to public safety. No further information will be released at this time to protect
the integrity of the investigation.
