Mary E. Moore of Ferndale passed away on the night of Monday August 27th with her daughter Kathleen Moore, her son Douglas Phillips Jr. and her daughter-in-law Felice Phillips by her side.

Mary was born in Tokyo, Japan to Thomas and Barbara Butler. She is survived by her grandchildren, Maxwell and Abigail Phillips, her sisters Barbara Dickhoner and Pat Post, her nieces and nephew and all of her closest friends.

Mary was a strong independent woman who traveled the world and was never afraid to tell you what she thought. She accomplished and did many things in her life, but her children were one of her biggest joys. She was always there to help them and support them in any way she could. Mary was also a woman of many hobbies and talents — from raising llamas to cooking, her pottery, playing pool, and baking bread for her mother and granddaughter.

We have lost you too soon, Mom, and our hearts are very heavy. You raised us to be strong and so we will carry on, knowing that these will be some of our toughest days ahead without you. We will miss your laugh and a day won’t go by that we won’t think of you. Until we hug again — rest in peace, Mom.

A celebration of life will be held at Ferndale City Hall at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.
