Charlene Yvonne Baldy was born in Sacramento on June 13, 1953. She passed away on March 29, 2019 in Eureka with her loving husband of 40 years, Michael Baldy, Sr., by her side. Charlene battled cancer multiple times and lived with fibromyalgia for the last 25 years. There are so many doctors to thank but the ones who were always there Dr. Eva Smith, Susan Walsh FNP, Dr. Fratkin and his assistant Natalia and Dr. Holliday at UC Davis.
Charlene was a Hoopa Tribal Member who resided on the Hoopa Valley Reservation. She worked for 10 years as a Medical Records Clerk at Hoopa Health Association/K’ima:w Medical Center until she left to pursue her dreams of owning her own coffee shop. In 1999 She opened up her own business, “Chin’sit,” serving coffee, baked items and breakfast burritos.
Charlene doted on her 16 grandchildren, having many tea parties and always making sure to prepare the special food they enjoyed. She also loved to sew, craft and cut hair, which earned her the nickname “Razor.” Charlene’s door was always open to those in need. She would always make sure you were happy and fed! She also loved to play pool and had a sharp shot, running the table many times.
Charlene is survived by her husband, Michael Baldy, Sr., and their 4 children, Sunni Ulestad, Carmelita (Ronnie) Navarro, Michael (Misqiy’ts) Baldy, JR, Falona (Michael) Bailey; 16 grandchildren, Tajia, Nate, George, Shaun, Kylee, Mekila, Cohen, Charles, Jaycee, Bella, Khoko, Rosaly, Lola, Jaclene, Elaina, and Liam; her mother, Delores Clark; siblings, Merwin, Clara, Mekila (Tony Smith), and Randy Clark; brother-in-law, Steve (Lois) Baldy, Elton (Shannon) Baldy, and sister-in-law, Debrah Baldy; as well as many more extended family, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charlene is preceded in death by her father’s, Charles Cole and George “Bud” Clark; grandparents, Ruth and Steve Collins, Cecil and Lorencita Masten, and Merwin and Clara Clark.
Charlene did not wish to have a funeral, but instead wanted her family/friends to enjoy a celebration of life! The family would like to invite all of her friends to come and share your memories, love and favorite dish on April 5, 2019, 1 p.m., at Hoopa Fire Department Training Facility.
