Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:
On April 1, 2019, at about 5:40 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 6100 block of Walnut Drive for the report of shots fired.
When deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with the 26-year-old male victim outside the residence. The victim told deputies that prior to their arrival, the victim and the suspect, 21-year-old Donald Anthony Garcia Jr., had gotten into an argument in the garage area of the residence. At some point during this argument, Garcia Jr. brandished a firearm at the victim and fired one shot. The victim was not injured and fled to a nearby residence to call law enforcement.
Deputies detained multiple people during a search of the residence. Deputies then located Garcia Jr. hiding inside a bedroom of the residence, along with the firearm. During a search of Garcia Jr., deputies located approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine.
Garcia Jr. was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of assault with a firearm on a person, negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed, exhibiting a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance and resisting a peace officer. His bail is set at $35,000.
