File photo – Ferndale’s Austin Hughes pitched five innings of shutout baseball on Tuesday to lead his team to a 5-0 win over Fortuna.

The Ferndale Wildcats won baseball’s version of the Milk Can on Tuesday, defeating close rivals Fortuna 5-0.

Austin Hughes pitched five scoreless innings for the win, as the Cats improved to 9-9 on the season.

Fortuna, which dropped to 3-15, had three hits on the day, one each from Sheaden Kadle, Gabe Sandberg and Garrett Aust.

Caleb Crawley took the loss on the mound.

Fortuna is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Hoopa on Thursday, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.

Ferndale, which is 6-4 in the Little 4, returns to conference play in a key doubleheader at South Fork next week.
