David Elijah Heflin (Bubba) passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2019 at the age of 27. He was surrounded by family at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa.

David was born on October 12, 1991 in Fortuna to Donna and Richard Heflin. He attended Hydesville Elementary School graduating from 8th grade in 2006. David then went on to attend Fortuna Union High School and East High, graduating from East High in 2010.

David spent nearly every summer camping at Ruth lake with his grandmother and various other family members. He spent endless hours fishing, swimming, and floating. He was always the one to push his sisters and cousins into the water, and then take off running so they couldn’t catch him. He loved spending time with his three nieces, who adored him. When he wasn’t spending time with family he was either playing video games or hanging out with friends, sometimes both. He had a tremendous love for cooking and always dreamed of becoming a chef. He could make a gourmet meal out of what most people would consider to be nothing.

David was always happy and had such a comical personality. He would make it his mission to make someone happy if they were feeling down, and he was very good at it. Anyone who knew David, knew about his laugh. Just hearing it would make anyone laugh back. That’s what his family and friends will miss most, that infectious laugh.

David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alice and Roy (Poppy) Duran, Carl and Lupe Overby, aunts Carol Edwards and Davena Franceschi, and great grandparents Marion and Florence Horn.

David is survived by his father and step-mother, Richard and Regina Heflin, his mother Donna Heflin and her spouse Jim Hyland, sister Sarah Woods and twin sister Kimber Bell, grandmother Marilyn Horn, his nieces Danika, Gracie and Lilith, aunt Celia Flores, uncle Robert Heflin and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held on May 4, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the ballroom of the Bear River Hotel. A potluck reception will follow. There will be a photo board and all are invited to bring any pictures of David that they wish to share.
