Gertrude (Trudy) Schneider passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 in Eureka. She was 88.

Trudy was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on May 19, 1930, to Frieda and Alfred Lentzsch. She married William Schneider in 1954, and the couple lived in Plainfield until 1957, when they relocated to Whittier, California, where they raised their four children. In 2002, they moved to Salem, Oregon, near their youngest daughter and her family. In 2013, they relocated to McKinleyville, nearer to their three older children and their families in Humboldt County.

In each of these locations, Trudy and Bill were dedicated members of Baptist church communities, forming many valued and enduring friendships within their Christian faith. Trudy regularly hosted child evangelism gatherings in her Whittier home, which were attended by neighborhood children. Trudy and Bill were also regular visitors at Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility, where they sponsored youth, offering them guidance and friendship. This outreach was fulfilling and very gratefully received.

Trudy loved welcoming friends and future friends into her home, and her dining table was always set awaiting frequent guests. Her lifetime of outreach to friends and strangers alike is an example to all. She warmly embraced her family, her faith, and anyone who took her welcoming hand, and she has left her family and friends with many cherished memories.

Trudy was preceded in death by her twin brother Heinz and brothers Alfred and Henry, and two sisters, Edith and Sylvia. She is survived by her husband William Schneider; brother Ray Lentzsch; sons Keith and Gregory Schneider, daughters Lori Taylor and Lisa Stewart; sons-in-law Steven Taylor and Mark Stewart, and daughters-in-law Catherine Kenyon and Valentina Schneider; grandchildren Dustin, Garrett and Cory Taylor, Adam and Nathaniel Schneider, Anna and Gabriel Schneider, Samuel, Emily, Noah and Benjamin Stewart; and great-grandchildren Annabelle, Isaac, Finnian, Marigold, Caroline, Bjorn, Hazel, Emmylou, Wyatt, Slater and Laska Taylor, and Nicolai and Giavanna Schneider.
