The Arcata Tigers have been forced to pull the plug on this weekend’s Eye of the Tiger girls soccer tournament, pushing back the season openers for some local teams.
With no out-of-area teams committed to traveling to Arcata, head coach Patrick Stranahan canceled the early-season event.
The majority of schools in the North Coast Section play soccer in winter and not the fall, limiting the number of teams Stranahan can call on.
McKinleyville, which opened the season in a 6-1 win over Willits last week, was scheduled to play at the tournament, as was Eureka.
