College of the Redwoods announced on Friday afternoon that the school’s football team will play four of five home games this season at Humboldt State’s Redwood Bowl.

The switch is due to the ongoing construction at the CR, including work on the athletic facilities.

The Corsairs, who have played games at HSU in each of the past two seasons, will play their first home game against Gavilan on September 14 on the CR campus, before switching venues for the remainder of the season.

CR will play games at the Redwood Bowl on October 5, 12 and 26, as well as on November 16.

HSU dropped football after last season.

“With the opening up of their facility this season and the venue/atmosphere to watch college football that the Redwood Bowl provides, it was a great opportunity to expand the number of games played out there this season while we continue through the various stages of our projects,” CR Athletic Director Bob Brown said.

The Corsairs open the season on the road next weekend at Monterey Peninsula.

“We are looking forward to a great season of college of the Redwoods football and want to invite our entire Humboldt community to come out and support the Corsairs,” Brown added.

The AD thanked HSU’s Assistant Athletic Director of Game Management Kelly Kime, who helped facilitate the agreement.

Despite dropping its football team, HSU will host more football than ever this fall, with both Arcata and McKinleyville high schools also playing their home games at the Redwood Bowl.
