From the Arcata Fire District’s Facebook page:

Arcata Fire District, Fieldbrook Volunteer Fire Department, and CAL FIRE Humboldt-Del Norte Unit (Trinidad) responded to a vegetation fire off Hammond Trail near Hiller Park today (8/31/19). Firefighters located a small fire in heavy vegetation on MCSD property. The area was being used as a large homeless camp, therefore, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office responded in first to clear the camp for firefighter safety.

Fieldbrook brought a small 4x4 engine to assist with access into the fire while other firefighters were shuttled in using pickups. Fire crews extinguished the fire in approximately 2 hours. Arcata Fire thanks their auto-aid partners for assisting and thanks Samoa Peninsula Fire District for covering the Arcata Station during the fire.
