The College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team stretched its winning streak to six straight on Thursday with an 81-70 win over Canada at the Kris Kringle tournament hosted by Santa Rosa JC.

Thomas Nelson continued his blistering start to the season with a team-high 29 points in the win, as the Corsairs upped their mark to 11-3.

Drew Gillette added 11 points in the win and teammate Donald Willis had 10 points.

The Corsairs will continue tournament play on Friday against Napa Valley College and former Ferndale standout Gio Magdaleno.

HSU Women 71, SF State 59

The Lumberjacks got back to winning ways on Thursday night, beating San Francisco at home and improving to 8-2 on the season and 4-1 in conference.

Alexia Thrower and Tyra Turner each finished with a double-double in the win.

The ever-consistent Thrower had 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Turner finished with 14 points, 10 assists, eight boards and three steals for an outstanding all-around night.

Madeline Hatch added 14 points and Molly Dixon 10 points.

The Jacks outscored the home team 26-12 in the third quarter to break open a tight game and lead by 19 heading into the final quarter.
