Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The St. Bernard’s players celebrate their state championship win on Saturday night.

Two onside kick recoveries in the third quarter led to a pair of touchdowns for the Crusaders in Saturday night’s state championship showdown at the Redwood Bowl, as St. Bernard’s took control of an entertaining game.

It was a bold move, something we’ve come to expect from Matt Tomlin and these Crusaders, who remarkably also recovered two onside kicks in the third quarter of the North Coast Section championship game two weeks ago.

The first recovery led to quarterback Will Omey’s second TD of the night, on a two-yard QB sneak that seemed to inspire the senior and several of his teammates.

Check out video footage of the touchdown and celebrations here, and the emotional reaction of the players.

The Crusaders won the game 34-20.
