Donald Leo Coppini passed away peacefully December 14, 2019. He was 91 years old.
Don was born on April 27, 1928 to Leo and Mary Coppini (Regli). He grew up on the family dairy started by his grandfather John William (JW) Coppini, attended The Assumption Catholic School and Ferndale High School graduating in 1947. Don was a starting guard on the Wildcat football team and ran track. Don also tried his hand at amateur boxing and although he was very good he also knew he was a better dairyman.
During and after high school Don ran dairies with his brother Francis and his brother Paul. When his dad Leo died in 1962 Don took over the family dairy. Don had many champion Jersey herds including Sunny King Berna, the World Buttermilk Champion buried at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.
Don married his wife Donna in 1970 and was blessed not only with the love of his life but three kids as well. Don and Donna were married 49 years and were inseparable, loving each other to the end.
Don retired in 1984 and his nephew Tracy Coppini took over the family dairy. Don started his second career working for Renner Ranches farming fields throughout the Eel River Valley. Don was still working through the Fall of 2019 and even at the age of 91 his face lit up when Joe Renner called him to go to work. Don loved Joe like a son and we will miss their nightly phone calls.
Don was preceded in death by his grandfather JW Coppini, his parents Leo and Mary Coppini, his siblings Francis, Paul, Maryann and Lois and his step-son Donald Wright. He is survived by his wife Donna Coppini, his step-son Davy Wright (Bonnie) and family, step-daughter Diane Sauer (Paul) and family, his brother Leonard (Catherine) and many nephews, nieces, grandchildren, cousins and friends that he loved dearly. Don will especially miss his grandson and traveling partner Morgan Wright and his great-granddaughter Addie.
The family would like to thank Diane Sauer for her many hours of caregiving and Hospice of Humboldt. Don requested no services. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
