Several local teams were back in action the day after Christmas at a variety of tournaments, including three H-DNL teams competing at the Fort Bragg tournament.
Early on Friday, the St. Bernard’s boys responded to an opening-day loss on Thursday with a better performance in a 68-46 win over Mendocino.
Will Omey led the way offensively with 20 points, while Lane Thrap added 12 points and Owen Shanahan seven.
“It was a much better effort today by the boys, especially on defense which translated into us playing better offense with more energy,” head coach Steve Thrap said.
On Thursday, the Crusaders lost 65-55 to Nueva.
Remy Campbell scored 17 points in the loss, while Lane Thrap had 12 and Jake Fairfield nine.
The SB boys close out tourney play on Saturday.
Del Norte 56, Roseland Prep 38
The Del Norte boys got the Fort Bragg tournament off to a winning start on Thursday, with Omar Banuelos again leading the way offensively with 26 points, including 10 in the second quarter alone.
Kaleb Price added nine points in the win and Anthony Slayton and Damien Dowd six apiece.
The Warriors had to battle for the win after trailing by as many as six points early in the third quarter, but took control of the clash in the second half.
Eureka 70, Hayward 53
The Loggers kept their impressive run going at the Livermore tournament on Thursday with a comfortable win over Hayward.
Cahliel Garner led the way with 17 points in the win, as the Loggers got another balanced team performance, with CJ Chaidez adding 13 points and Jaeden Thayer 11.
Miles Meynell also had a big game with eight points, while Jackson Giacone and Trevor Bell finished with six points each.
Arcata 68, Mission 74, OT
Niko Zambas ad Brandon Bento-Jackson each scored 18 points for the Tigers, who lost their opener at the Marin Catholic tournament on Thursday.
Mason Railsback scored 16 points in the loss and Jack Taylor eight.
Fortuna 36, Healdsburg 53
Matt Berti scored a team-high 12 points as the Huskies fell to Healdsburg.
GIRLS
St. Bernard’s 58, Freedom 67
The Crusaders played Division-I Freedom close in the opening round of the Fort Bragg tournament on Thursday.
Saulele Tanuvasa scored 30 points in the loss, as the St. Bernard’s girls drop to 9-4.
Shelby Jordan added nine points for SB, while Marayah Tomlinson finished with seven and Mackenzie Finck six.
